The formula
Action verb + what you did + the number + the outcome
Example: Rebuilt the onboarding email flow for 40K monthly signups, raising week-one activation 19%. Four parts, one line, no filler.
If you genuinely have no metric, use scope instead: team size, budget, number of accounts, volume handled, systems owned. Scope is still evidence. "Improved things" is not.
Verbs to open with
Drop the phrases that eat your line count: "responsible for", "helped with", "assisted in", "involved in", "duties included", "tasked with".
Weak to strong, four rewrites
Weak: Managed the customer support inbox.
Strong: Owned a 300-ticket weekly inbox and cut average first response from 14h to 2h by rebuilding triage rules.
Weak: Worked with engineering on product improvements.
Strong: Ran weekly discovery with 3 engineers and shipped 8 improvements that lifted trial-to-paid conversion from 4.1% to 6.4%.
Weak: Prepared monthly reports for management.
Strong: Automated the monthly management pack in Excel and Power BI, saving 12 hours a month and removing 2 recurring errors.
Weak: Responsible for training new staff.
Strong: Designed a 5-day onboarding programme for 18 new hires, cutting time to first solo shift from 6 weeks to 3.
How many bullets per role
Three to five for your current or most recent role, two to three for older ones, and one or none for anything over ten years old unless it is directly relevant. Lead each role with your strongest result — many recruiters never reach the last bullet.
